What shocked me about Day 1 of Detox….

Well the hubby and I survived Day 1 of Detox! To bring you up to speed, my husband and I decided to do the Your Super 5 day detox after all the holiday food and drinks!

Which means NO….

  • OILS
  • SALT
  • MEAT

Sounds intimidating right!?:) Yea I thought so too, but the way I see it- it’s only for 5 days and the benefits for your body are totally worth it! The detox can clean your system, help you sleep better, jumpstart your weight loss, improve your skin, clear your mind and boost your energy levels!

What you CAN have on the detox….

  • fresh & frozen fruits
  • fresh & frozen vegetables
  • beans & legumes
  • grains
  • plant-based milk
  • coconut water
  • raw nuts & seeds
  • herbs & spices
  • herbal teas
  • condiments

Here is how I pictured the first day of detox going- exhausted, unfocused, starving and incredibly cranky from the first morning in 15 years without my morning coffee! I knew coffee would be one of the most difficult parts of the detox for me, and my occasional glass of red wine of course;)

Complete disclosure- I actually made a pot of coffee Sunday night completely out of habit, simply doing my Sunday night routine preparing for the week! Then come Monday morning on day 1 of detox I basically stared at it for a while going back in forth in my head thinking things like… “oh I can just have one cup or I can start the detox tomorrow no biggie, or I have so much to get done today and I’m going to need the energy,” blah blah blah …. Then my 7 year old (who I thought hadn’t been paying any attention to daddy and I talking about the detox) said, “I thought you and daddy weren’t supposed to have coffee?” with a big smile on her face πŸ™‚ I smiled back and instantly went to the sink and dumped out the entire pot and said “That’s right! Thank you for reminding me” …… children are excellent motivation:)

I was expecting a brutal headache and complete exhaustion but it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting! No headache, I wasn’t dosing off all morning and I actually think I got MORE done, perhaps in the attempt to stay busy and not think about wanting my morning coffee! Instead I put the kettle on and had green tea, nuts for a snack and smoothies for breakfast and lunch mixed with my Superfood mixes: Super Green, Skinny Protein and Forever Beautiful! They were absolutely delicious and I was full throughout the entire day!

The hardest part of a detox or any diet is always dinner! It’s easy cooking for yourself but trying to stay on track and cook something everyone in the family will eat…. not so simple!

Day 1 Dinner: Chorizo Lettuce Wraps – The Morning Star Farms plant based Chorizo Crumbles was shockingly delicious!! I would absolutely buy this again! Instead of tortillas we used bibb lettuce for wraps and for toppings: black beans, guacamole, pico and lime quinoa with cilantro sprinkled on top….YUM!
